Our department covers a variety of marine researches including biology and ecology of marine organisms, their reproductive biology, systematics and taxonomy, phylogeography and population genetics, marine pollution, marine biotechnology, antifouling studies, marine phycology, marine microbiology and the technology of marine enzymes. Describing marine biodiversity in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, finding new taxa, discovering new aspects of their biology, unfolding their ecology as well as identifying valuable marine bio-products are part of our scientific achievements. In addition to continuing our researches on the biodiversity, biology and ecology of marine organisms, we also intend to find our way toward applied marine biology and marine biotechnology. This would include addressing issues in fisheries like finding suitable local candidates as live food, improving antifouling methods, using marine bacteria in order to produce bio-product and marine enzymes for industries. Using marine organism in order to produce pharmaceutic and cosmetic compounds. Also biotechnology can help in bioremediation of pollutants.
